A man was struck and killed by a Brightline train as he attempted to cross railroad tracks in Deerfield Beach on Monday night, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

At around 9:30 p.m. 911 calls came in about the collision in the area of West Hillsboro Boulevard and Dixie Highway. Investigators say a man, who has yet to be identified, “was walking westbound on the sidewalk, attempting to cross the east set of railroad tracks when he was struck by a train.”

He died on scene.

The railroad’s safety equipment was working properly during the investigation, according to BSO.
