Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested a man who they say shot and killed a Pompano Beach smoke shop employee in March.

BSO detectives along with Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office fugitive unit detectives located 25-year-old Claurry Paul on June 30 at an apartment in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was arrested on a first-degree murder charge.

As of Monday, he was awaiting extradition to Broward County, according to BSO spokeswoman Miranda Grossman.

Paul is accused of fatally shooting 27-year-old Sayf Abelaziz inside the Fire Up Smoke Shop, located at 1251 East Sample Road, shortly after midnight, March 30.

BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue paramedics found Abelaziz suffering from a single gunshot wound. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

Detectives say Paul entered the business holding the gun, and approached the counter, which Abelaziz was standing behind. At some point, detectives say Paul pulled the trigger and killed Abelaziz.
