Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are investigating the shooting of a Pompano Beach smoke shop employee who was found dead inside the store early Sunday morning.

Deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue paramedics arrived at the Fire Up Smoke Shop, located at 1251 East Sample Road, shortly after 12 a.m. and found 27-year-old Sayf Abelaziz suffering a single gunshot wound, said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Miranda Grossman. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

A person came into the shop, approached the front counter holding a handgun and shot Abdelaziz, Grossman said, adding the shooter then ran away.
