‘Come to Laudy! It’s so much fun!’: See what Fort Lauderdale spring break looks like
Crowds of college students in town for spring break were in good spirits on Fort Lauderdale Beach as police looked on from horses and life guard stands on Thursday. According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, though the city is “experiencing larger crowds this year,” there have not been any major issues with spring breakers.

Young people made their own fun playing beach volleyball, throwing footballs and bar hopping. The drinks were blue and slushy, the music at Elbo Room was bumping and many spring breakers’ shoulders burned bright pink.
The scene in Fort Lauderdale was a stark difference from Miami Beach, where the city famously “broke up” with spring break last year after several instances of gun violence and unruly crowds in the past. While South Beach is peaceful and quiet this year, Fort Lauderdale is peaceful and boisterous.
Visitors lounging on the beach with friends said they appreciated that the city is welcoming and that spring breakers have not caused any trouble.

“Fort Lauderdale is probably the top spring break spot in the country,” said Cadence Woolfork, a 19-year-old University of Kentucky student. “Come to Laudy! It’s so much fun. It’s worth the money. You need to experience it once in your college life.”
