Spring break continued without a hitch in Miami Beach on a peak weekend. At sunset on Saturday night, crowds were noticeably smaller but just as lively as in years past.
Miami Beach’s many restrictions and increased enforcement continued with extra police officers, DUI checkpoints and limited beach access.
Miami Beach police spokesman Christopher Bess said arrests are down 19% compared to this time last year, with 257 arrests as of Saturday morning in the South Beach area.
While city efforts seemed to have kept away massive crowds that used to descend on South Beach, spring breakers who did come were still having the time of their lives.
“I came to have fun and party with my friends, and that’s what I’m going to do,” said Imani Wright, who came from Georgia State University to unwind during her spring break.
