‘Cannabis-infused’ gummies hospitalized 6 kids, Boys & Girls Club of Broward says
The “candy” that sent children to the hospital Wednesday afternoon from the Boys & Girls Club of Broward’s Lauderhill location were cannibis-infused gummies brought by one of the kids, the organization said Thursday afternoon.
The organization said the six children who were taken to the hospital and the two sent home with their parents from the club at 5455 NW 19th St. “are returning to their normal activities.”
All eight kids were 6 to 8 years old.
“At this point, all indications are that a young Club member brought a package of cannabis-infused gummy candies into the Club after school,” the Boys & Girls Club of Broward said in a statement. “That individual proceeded to share the contents of that package with other members.”
Lauderhill police, who said they were called to the club three times Wednesday between 3:30 and 6 p.m to help deal with the situation, said while the packaging read “Cannabis Infused” and“For Medical Use Only” it hadn’t been tested for THC content yet.
“Therefore we are still unable to confirm what substance the candy was potentially infused with.”
