1 killed in crash involving a Lexus near Sawgrass Mills mall in Sunrise, police say

One person was killed in an overnight crash near Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise.

The crash happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the intersection of Northwest 136th Avenue and West Sunrise Boulevard, a few minutes from the mall, according to Sunrise police.

A driver in a Nissan was waiting at the red light on Northwest 136th Avenue when the car was rear-ended by a driver in a Lexus, that was going “at a high rate of speed,” police said.

The force of the crash killed the Nissan driver. The Lexus driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital for minor injuries, according to police.

The victim’s identity will not be released until family is notified.

No other information was immediately available.
