Some Fort Lauderdale residents have to boil their water after another water main break

There was another water main break in Fort Lauderdale Monday, causing some residents to be without water service and causing others to have boil their water before use.

The break — the eighth water main or sewer main break in Fort Lauderdale since the start of December — happened at Jackson Tower East, 100 S. Birch Rd., a high-rise condominium in the Las Olas neighborhood.

By 5 p.m., the city’s said Jackson Tower and Portofino, a luxury high-rise at 77 Birch, “remain without service.” A precautionary boil water notice was issued for other residents in the surrounding area for at least two days.

“Residents are advised that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled,” the city said. “A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient.”

The break is in a 16-inch pipe. Workers have stopped water flowing out of it.

Birch Road, around the break is closed. You can reach Jackson Tower from the north side of the building. Southbound traffic is being guided to Seabreeze Boulevard and northbound traffic to A1A via Cortez Street and Poinsettia Street.
