How long will the precautionary boil water notice continue in Fort Lauderdale?

Fort Lauderdale residents in Victoria Park who have been boiling their water since Wednesday’s water main break should continue doing so until at least this Wednesday, the city announced Monday afternoon.

That’s residents in an area with a northern boundary on Northeast Fifth Street; southern boundary at Northeast Second Street; eastern boundary at Northeast Ninth Avenue; and western boundary at Northeast Seventh Avenue. Water used for drinking, cooking, ice making, brushing teeth or washing dishes should be boiled.

This will remain in effect until two consecutive days of clear tests for water samples. Water samples were taken Monday and will be taken again Tuesday. Wednesday’s the earliest the latter results are expected.

This is not a mandatory boil water notice, which happens when E. coli is found in the water.

“A precautionary boil water notice is issued when an incident occurs in which there is a chance of bacteria entering the water system, such as, low or no water pressure, a water main break, or a disruption in the water treatment plant,” the city said.
