Small plane carrying a student and instructor skids off runway at North Perry Airport
A single-engine Piper PA-28 was attempting to land at North Perry Airport with two people on board when it skidded off the runway shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.
“The left main gear appears to have collapsed. There are no reported injuries or significant damage to the airport property,” said North Perry Airport spokesman Gregory Meyer.
The plane carried an instructor and a student from Broward College’s Emil Buehler Aviation Institute, which is based at the airport near University Drive and Pines Boulevard.
The airport’s Runway 10L is closed, but the rest of North Perry is operational, Meyer said.
A representative from the Federal Aviation Administration was on the Pembroke Pines site to investigate. The plane is being removed by its owner, Meyer said.
This is the second similar incident in as many months at the airport.
In November, a student flying solo in a small 172 Cessna slid off a North Perry runway into a grassy area and was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
The flight school did not immediately respond to the Miami Herald’s request for comment.
