As Broward dries off from deluge and flood, traffic and flights return to normal

After weekend downpours flooded dozens of Broward neighborhoods and briefly shut down the Fort Lauderdale airport, things were looking up on Tuesday morning.

In a statement, Fort Lauderdale fire spokesman Matt Little said most roadways were clear.

Hollywood spokeswoman Raelin Storey said conditions there had “improved considerably.” A spokeswoman for Hallandale Beach, which saw some of the worst weekend flooding, echoed those comments.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Gulfstream Park, whose barns were flooded, said waters had receded.

Fairer weather Tuesday meant all outbound flights from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport were cleared for takeoff, though some inbound flights may have been affected by a citywide ground stop for flights from Chicago.
