Cops say a Davie officer was trying to shoot a charging dog. Instead, he shot himself

A Davie officer is recovering after police say he accidentally shot himself while responding to a home early Friday.

Police say the officer was trying to shoot a dog that charged at him — and shot himself in the hand instead.

The incident happened at a home on Southwest 116th Way, according to Local 10.

The dog was grazed by the bullet and is expected to be OK, said Lt. Mark Leone.

As for the officer, he’s recovering from non-life threatening injuries.

Leone said the officer was handling a “non-criminal incident” but did not disclose any additional details.
