BSO questioning ‘person of interest’ in fatal Dania Beach hit and run

Detectives from the Broward Sheriff's Office are talking to a “person of interest” who was involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a 57-year-old man dead in Dania Beach, the agency announced Thursday.

The agency has been seeking the public’s help in locating the driver of a 1992-1996 maroon Ford F-150 pickup truck.

On Thursday afternoon, BSO said that someone contacted investigators about the crash. A damaged maroon Ford pickup was recovered. No one has been charged yet.

The man, who has not been identified, was crossing from the south side to the north side of Griffin Road with his roommate at about 7:25 Wednesday night when the truck, heading west, slammed into him.

The crash happened at 2600 Griffin Rd., not far from the popular Tropical Acres Steakhouse.

The man was taken to Memorial Regional hospital, where he died.

The roommate, Bill Hidden, was not injured and stayed on scene. He told police he saw a red Ford pickup truck take off.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Michael Kelliher at 954-321-4840 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
