7 hospitalized after 2 car crashes in Fort Lauderdale; southbound trains suspended
Two serious car crashes within minutes of each other sent seven people to the hospital Wednesday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale, temporarily suspending southbound railroad traffic in the area.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the first incident minutes before 3:30 p.m. near 1500 W Broward Blvd where a two-vehicle crash injured six people.
Four of the victims were children, according to Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan.
Of the two injured adults, one was transported to a local hospital “with a precautionary trauma alert, in serious but stable condition,” Gollan said.
About two miles away, near 2100 Davie Blvd, another car drove off the road onto the Fort Lauderdale Amtrack tracks around 3:30 p.m.
The car was not hit by a train, but a woman suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital, according to Gollan.
Southbound Railroad traffic in the city was temporarily suspended. The block may affect travelers headed towards Miami International Airport Wednesday afternoon.
