Manager of Coral Gables laser skin care place banned from using laser devices
Using a laser-based device beyond the scope of her license got a Coral Gables electrologist “permanently restricted from operating laser or light-based devices.”
That’s from the state Board of Medicine’s final order for Mayilex Olmo, who state records list as the manager and lone officer of Mayical Skincare, 1001 Ponce de Leon Blvd.
Olmo also received a reprimand and a $1,000 fine, was charged $7,000 reimbursement of the Florida Department of Health’s case costs, and ordered to do five hours of continuing medical education in risk management.

Mayical Skincare hung up on a Miami Herald reporter who asked for Olmo seeking comment. She has been a Mayical manager since it was registered with the state on Feb. 7, 2019, almost seven months after she earned her electrologist license.
Under Florida Administrative Code, that license allows an electrologist “to operate a laser-based device only for the purpose of hair removal or reduction services” the administrative complaint against Olmo said.

But, the complaint said, on Nov. 23, 2021, Dec. 14, 2021, and Jan. 19, 2022, Olmo “personally used a laser-based device to improve the appearance of one or more of patient B.G.’s scars at Mayical Skincare.”
The complaint said that counted as “practicing ... beyond the scope permitted by law” or “performing professional responsibilities the licensee knows ...(he or she) is not competent to perform.”
