Who punches a 98-year-old with dementia? This nursing home employee, the state says
A Naples nursing assistant lost her certification and her job after two incidents of elder abuse, the Florida Department of Health said.
The nursing assistant is Yverose Neus and the incidents were punches to the head of an HCR ManorCare resident, according to the emergency order suspending Neus’ certificate.
On Feb., 3, the order said, a co-worker saw Neus standing in the room of a 98-year-old resident with dementia. Then, the co-worker saw the 220-pound Neus “swing her closed fists and hit the back of Patient E.H.’s head twice. Patient E.H. attempted to stop Neus from hitting her by holding her hands up defensively.”
HCR ManorCare’s Naples facility fired Neus after an investigation. Neus’ certificate, which she’s had since September 1999, got suspended May 26.
