Florida confirmed novel coronavirus cases surpass 26,000, state death toll reaches 774
South Florida again accounted for most of the Sunday evening increases in Florida’s confirmed COVID-19 case count and deaths from novel coronavirus.
Of the 318 new confirmed cases that raised Florida’s number to 26,314, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach had 213 (Monroe County had no new cases). Of the 26,314 confirmed cases, nearly 60% are concentrated in South Florida. The state’s announced death toll is 774, 10 more than were reported earlier Sunday.
Adding seven more people to its death count Sunday evening, Palm Beach closed the day with a total of 14 deaths on Sunday alone.
As reported by the Miami Herald, announced COVID-19 numbers probably are well under actual numbers because of the time lag in reporting results from private laboratory testing.
The county breakdown in South Florida:
▪ Miami-Dade: Another 188 cases and five deaths puts the state-high totals at 9,354 and 207, respectively. No additional hospitalizations (869) were reported. The positive test rate rose from 17.1 to 17.4 on 56,093 tests.
▪ Broward: There are 3,971 confirmed COVID-19 cases after another 11 were reported. Twelve more hospitalizations moved that total to 693, and a total of 115 deaths. On 33,813 tests, the positive test rate is 11.7 percent, down from 12.1 percent.
▪ Monroe: No change on 73 cases, nine hospitalizations and three deaths. There’s a 7.8 percent positive rate on 976 tests.
▪ Palm Beach: 14 new cases and two hospitalizations were reported, 2,170 and 361, respectively, but another seven deaths were reported (121). Of the 16,160 tests administered, 13.4 have come back positive, down 0.2 point.
