Miami-Dade County Public Schools will distribute free at-home COVID-19 rapid test kits Thursday afternoon to students and employees. It’s first come, first served at five locations across the district.

Students will receive one test kit, with employees eligible to receive up to two test kits, while supplies last, according to a flier that was emailed to district employees. To get the kit, students and employees will need to show their student or employee ID number as well as their school or district issued ID card.

The distribution, done in partnership with Miami-Dade County and the county’s health department, comes as South Florida grapples with a rise in COVID-19 cases and a spike in demand for tests. The district was faced with a staffing shortage this week, with employees calling out sick, as students returned to the classroom from winter break.

The flier says a limited amount of kits will be available Thursday, Jan. 6, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the following locations:

American Adult and Community Education Center, 18350 NW 67th Ave., American Senior High School.

Miami Coral Park Adult-Community Education Center, 8865 SW 16th St., Coral Park Senior High School.

Robert Morgan Educational Center and Technical College, 18180 SW 122nd Ave.

Miami Jackson Adult Education Center, 1751 NW 36th St., Miami Jackson Senior High School.

Miami Sunset Adult Education Center, 13125 SW 72nd St., Miami Sunset Senior High School.

On Sunday, the school district distributed about 10,000 at-home test kits on a first-come, first-served basis to employees.
