Florida COVID update: 3,598 more cases added to state total, fewer people in hospital
Florida on Tuesday reported 3,598 more COVID-19 cases and three deaths to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.
In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,590,400 confirmed COVID cases and 55,622 deaths since the pandemic began.
In the past seven days the state has added, on average, 222 deaths and 4,321 cases per day, according to Herald calculations of CDC data.
Florida COVID-19 Vaccine Rate
About 12,421,289 eligible Floridians — 57.8% of the state’s population — had completed the two-dose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or have completed Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Vaccinations in South Florida and Manatee County
The CDC still reported that every Florida county’s level of community transmission remains high. Here’s how many people have been fully vaccinated in South Florida, according to the CDC.
▪ In Miami-Dade County, about 1,984,009 people, or 73% of the county’s total population, are fully vaccinated.
▪ In Broward County, about 1,200,934 people are fully vaccinated, or 61.5% of the county’s population.
▪ In Palm Beach County, about 875,215 people are fully vaccinated, or 58.5% of the county’s population.
▪ In Monroe County, about 50,496 people are fully vaccinated, or 68% of the county’s population.
▪ In Manatee County, about 217,270 people are fully vaccinated, or 53.9% of the county’s population.
COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida
There were 4,847 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Tuesday report. This data is reported from 232 Florida hospitals. That is 259 fewer patients than Monday’s report, but also from 25 fewer hospitals than the 257 that reported on Monday. This continues a trend of decreasing hospitalizations.
COVID-19 patients take up 8.55% of all inpatient beds in the latest report’s hospitals, compared to 8.5% in the previous day’s reporting hospitals.
Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 1,235 people were in intensive care unit beds, a decrease of 72. That represents about 19.30% of the state’s ICU hospital beds compared to 20.6% the previous day.
Tuesday’s Miami-Dade County report said there were 422 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals on Monday, a decrease of 17 from the previous day’s report. Of the 39 new COVID patients, 29 (74.36%) had not been vaccinated. Intensive care patients numbered 133, a decrease of two from the previous day.
Broward County’s Tuesday report said there were 462 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals, an increase of 14 from Monday’s patient population.
