Fort Lauderdale shuts down 4 restaurants for violating COVID-19 re-opening regulations
Lack of facial coverings, people eating and drinking at the bar, bad social distancing and even failing to shut down when told to do so got four restaurants shut down Saturday night, the city of Fort Lauderdale announced Sunday.
All four restaurants — Bamboo Beach Tiki Bar, Casablanca Cafe, Spazio, 27 Bar and Lounge — also got fined, as did Luigi’s Tuscan Grill.
Among the 24 places given the once over by Fort Lauderdale and Broward Sheriff’s Office code enforcement officials and found in compliance with COVID-19 re-opening regulations were Cafe Europa and Shooters Waterfront.
Piazza Italia and Noodles Panini got the all-good after being fined Friday. Piazza Italia was actually closed.
Then, came Saturday’s problems. In alphabetical order:
▪ Bamboo Beach Tiki Bar, 4040 Galt Ocean Dr., got fined $15,000 and closed for “failure to comply with shutdown orders.”
▪ Casablanca Cafe, 3049 Alhambra St., got fined $250 and shut down for having people eating or drinking at the bar, exceeding maximum occupancy and bad social distancing.
▪ Luigi’s Tuscan Grill, 1105 E. Las Olas Blvd., got fined $250 for having tables assembled at the bar.
▪ Spazio, 239 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., got fined $500 and shut down for having no face coverings and but having tables assembled at the bar.
▪ 27 Bar and Lounge, 835 NE Third Ave., got fined $250 and closed for lack of facial coverings, using the bar area and poor social distancing.
Saturday’s violators will be re-inspected Sunday.
