Florida tops 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for fourth day in a row as more people are tested

1 p.m.: Florida’s Department of Health on Saturday morning confirmed 1,270 additional cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s total to 62,758 confirmed cases. There were also 28 new deaths announced, raising the statewide toll to 2,688.

This is the fourth day this week that the state’s daily total of newly confirmed cases surpassed 1,000.

Children’s Trust, FEMA donations

10:25 a.m.: The Children’s Trust donated more than 300,000 items of personal protective equipment to summer camp staffers who work with children on Friday from its Miami warehouse, WSVN7 reported.

The Children’s Trust partners with the Miami-Dade community to plan, advocate for and fund strategic investments concerning children and families. One of the group’s popular ongoing endeavors is the Young Talent Big Dreams competition with the Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables, now in its tenth year.

Also, the Florida Division of Emergency Management sent 500,000 gowns to long-term care facilities across Florida on Friday. These gowns are being sent to every long-term care facility in the state based on the number of licensed beds in each facility, according to the Florida Department of Health.

9 a.m.: Miami-Dade reopens its summer camps on June 8. But due to the coronavirus, camps will open under new conditions and must require social distancing, masks and daily temperature checks. Experts say camps can open. Not every parent agrees.
