Miami-Dade county libraries get a reopening date. Here is how COVID will change them.
As more businesses and locations are allowed to reopen in South Florida, the Miami-Dade Public Library System has been given a reopening date after being closed for nearly three months.
The Miami-Dade Public Library System will reopen starting June 8 with new novel coronavirus safety measures, Miami-Dade County announced Friday. Miami-Dade libraries originally closed their physical locations in early March.
Residents should check their local branch for its hours as libraries will be opening with an expanded schedule.
All library locations will open with occupancy limits and guests must wear face coverings. Inside, many safety changes will be implemented.
There will be plexiglass shields at service desks, hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the library, limited number of seating areas and computers, and floor decals will be placed throughout libraries.
It is still being encouraged for people to use MDPLS online library and digital resources, along with pre-ordering books and DVDs.
There will also be no more in-library programs or events until further notice. Virtual programs will continue on MDPLS’ social media accounts, including YouTube.
