Coronavirus shutdown locked up jury duty. When will it be off quarantine?

You know it’s coming after the judicial system emerges from COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Your civic duty request in the mailbox, the least loved piece of mail that doesn’t ask you for money: jury duty.

But you don’t have to worry about it for a while.

The original order of the Florida Supreme Court suspended all jury activity from March 16 through May 29. That was extended to July 2 earlier this month.

So, if your jury duty summons was from March 16 through July 2, your service is canceled. No need to contact anyone. You’re good.

If your jury duty summons is for July 6 forward, follow the normal reporting instructions on your summons until you hear otherwise. As July 6 nears, call 786-828-5879 in Miami-Dade, 954-831-7051 in Broward, 305-292-5000 in Monroe or 561-355-2930 in Palm Beach daily to make sure there have been no changes.

If you were on a jury when shutdowns hit, you’re still on that jury when things resume, whether that’s July 6 or later. Follow the reporting instructions you’ve been given. If you have questions, call one of the numbers above.
