University of Miami medical campus member tests presumptive positive for COVID-19
The University of Miami confirmed Tuesday that a member of its medical campus community has tested presumptive positive for COVID-19.
The university says the person is in good condition and is self-isolating to prevent the spread of infection.
“Our best wishes have been extended to the individual for a rapid recovery,” UM said in a statement.
The results have not yet been confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. UM has made several changes to the campus in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
All classes have been shifted to online, employees are able to work remotely and students are being encouraged to return home if they are staying on-campus as some housing will close on March 25.
As of Tuesday, 195 Florida residents had confirmed cases of COVID-19, and 21 cases in non-Florida residents.
Florida International University said a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. The university has closed all of its campuses to visitors.
On Saturday, Nova Southeastern University and the Broward County Health Department confirmed six people affiliated with the university tested positive for COVID-19. The six traveled to Ireland.
