Frontier Airlines restarts at Fort Lauderdale airport. Here’s where it’s flying

Discount carrier Frontier Airlines relaunched service at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with 12 new routes throughout the East Coast and Midwest.

The airline’s return to Fort Lauderdale began on Thursday and will continue with first flights on Friday and Saturday. Routes range from daily service to Orlando and Atlanta, to a once weekly flight to Green Bay, Wisconsin. The airline will add a 13th route with daily service to Chicago Midway International Airport in October.

It’s the first time the Denver-based airline has flown out of Fort Lauderdale since April 2020, shortly after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic prompted lockdowns causing most air traffic to shut down.

“We look forward to enabling more South Floridians to take advantage of signature low fares and friendly service on America’s greenest airline to reach destinations across the U.S. and internationally, as well as bring increased tourism to the state of Florida,” said Daniel Shurz, Frontier’s senior vice president of commercial.

Frontier’s return to Fort Lauderdale comes soon after the company announced Feb. 7 it would be merging with fellow discount carrier Spirit Airlines, whose headquarters are in Broward County.

The deal was unclear about which airline would survive after the $6.6 billion merger. But in a call with investors after the announcement, the companies said Frontier would be the majority stockholder, with 51.5% of the shares. Spirit, which employs 3,400 people in South Florida would control 48.5% of the stock.

Frontier’s new routes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport are:

• Atlanta — daily flight;
• Buffalo, N.Y. — daily flight;
• Islip, N.Y. — daily flight;
• Orlando — daily flight;
• Philadelphia — daily flight;
• Providence, R.I. — daily flight;
• Newburgh/Stewart, N.Y. — three flights weekly;
• Trenton, N.J. — daily flight;
• Albany, N.Y. — three flights weekly;
• Rochester, N.Y. — two flights weekly;
• Green Bay, Wisconsin — one flight weekly;
• Portland, Maine — one flight weekly;
• Chicago-Midway — daily flight, starting Oct. 13, 2022.
