Frontier Airlines restarting service at Fort Lauderdale airport in February
Discount carrier Frontier Airlines said Tuesday it will return to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with 12 nonstop flights to East Coast cities and Wisconsin starting in February 2022.
The Denver-based airline last flew out of Fort Lauderdale in April 2020, shortly after coronavirus pandemic lockdowns brought the nation’s air travel nearly to a halt.
“We’re excited to expand our low-fare service in South Florida in a big way by announcing service to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport with the roll out of 12 new nonstop routes, adding to our existing extensive service at both Miami and West Palm Beach,” said Daniel Shurz, a Frontier senior vice president, in a prepared statement.
The airline is selling tickets at introductory prices through Dec. 6 for its first two months of service from Fort Lauderdale, including $19 to Orlando, $29 to Atlanta and $49 to Portland, Maine.
A Frontier spokesperson said that the airline is experiencing strong demand in South Florida and views the resumption of flights to and from Fort Lauderdale as a complement to its existing service at Miami and West Palm Beach airports. The airline anticipates the return of flights out of Fort Lauderdale as a long-term move.
Starting Feb. 17-19, Frontier is adding service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to:
- Atlanta — daily flight
- Buffalo, N.Y. — daily flight
Islip, N.Y. — daily flight
Orlando — daily flight
Philadelphia — daily flight
