New luxury cruise ship on the way for Norwegian’s Regent Seven Seas Cruises fleet
Cruise line Regent Seven Seas Cruises announced Tuesday it has ordered a new luxury ship to debut in 2023.
Regent, a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, is spending more than $540 million on the new ship, which will accommodate 750 passengers. The ship will be built at Italy’s Fincantieri shipyard, and tickets will go on sale in 2021.
The new ship will be part of Regent’s Explorer class, which includes ships Seven Seas Explorer, launched in 2016, and the Seven Seas Splendor, launching in 2020. Seven Seas Explorer was briefly based in Miami in 2017 and is currently sailing in South America.
“When Seven Seas Splendor’s inaugural season went on sale in April 2018 we set a new single-day booking record for our 26-year-old company, demonstrating the anticipation for her 2020 arrival,” said Jason Montague, president and chief executive officer of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “Each new ship is progressively more successful.”
Just last week, Oceania Cruises, also a subsidiary of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, announced that it has ordered two new 1,200-passenger cruise ships for delivery in 2022 and 2025. Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship, 4,000-passenger Norwegian Encore, will launch in Miami in November 2019. It will be based at the line’s new cruise terminal at Port Miami, also due for completion in November 2019.
