Real estate calendar for the week of May 18

The future will be at the center of many conversations this week just as many Miami-Dade County and Broward businesses officially open. Webinars this week focus on companies planning their return to the office and economic forecasts for South Florida.

May 19

The nationwide law firm Becker, with law firms in Fort Lauderdale and Miami, will host the free webinar “Risky business: What owners need to know when reopening facilities” from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The talking points include the sanitation process companies should consider for office spaces, insurance, force majeure clauses and when employees should return to the office and how. The speakers include Fort Lauderdale-based Becker lawyers Steve Lesser, chair of the construction practice group, and Ken Direktor, chair of the community association practice group, as well as Clay Hernandez and Keith Hemmer of the national contractor firm Signal Restoration Services. The Miami Herald will host the free webinar “The business sentiment survey results” from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. More than 350 businesses located in Miami-Dade County responded to a survey regarding how they are surviving the pandemic and their expectations for the remainder of 2020. The panelists will discuss highlights from the survey, their observations on the local business market and predictions.

Miami Herald Business Editor Jane Wooldridge will moderate the discussion. Speakers include Felipe Basulto, chairman of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and market president of TD Bank; Christina Crespi, executive director of the Miami Downtown Development Authority; Michael Finney, president and chief executive officer of of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council and Gordon Eric Knowles, president and chief executive officer of the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce. The D.C.-based nonprofit Urban Land Institute will host the talk “Spring 2020 real estate economic forecast” from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Panelists will discuss key economic and real estate indicators that may hint at the future of the national marketplace for 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Mark Wilsmann, managing director and head of equity investments of the international investment firm MetLife Investment Management, will lead the discussion. Speakers include Stuart Hoffman, senior vice president and senior economic advisor of PNC Financial Services Group, Suzanne Mulvee, senior vice president of research and strategy for GID Real Estate Investments, and Tim Wang, managing director and head of investment research for the investment firm Clarion Partners.
