BankUnited has hired two residential lending vice presidents:

Luis Cassany has been named residential sales manager as well as vice president, based at the Alton Road branch in Miami Beach. He previously was a mortgage banker at Citibank in Miami Beach. Cassany has an MBA from Universidad Fermín Toro in Venezuela.

Kat Martin has been named senior residential sales manager as well as vice president and will be based in the West Sunrise branch. She previously was a senior loan officer at Prime Time Mortgage in Weston.

Jacqueline Modia has been named vice president and branch manager in Kendall at Apollo Bank. She most recently was a sales director at TotalBank. Modia has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Nova Southeastern University.

Robert A. Pedroso has been named senior vice president in the corporate lending division of TotalBank. He was most recently a vice president and relationship manager in commercial real estate finance at HSBC Bank. Pedroso has a bachelor’s degree in English from Florida International University.

Maria Beatriz Winstel is loan operations manager at International Finance Bank. She most recently was director of operations at Georgeé & Company, an affiliate of Keller Williams Realty. Winstel, a Navy veteran, is a Florida School of Banking graduate.

CREDIT UNIONS

Panzina Hill has been named vice president of human resources at BrightStar Credit Union. She was previously vice president of human resources for Nationwide Laboratory Services in Fort Lauderdale. Hill has a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of South Florida and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

EDUCATION

Marlen Mursuli has been named director of communications at St. Thomas University. Previously, she led PR campaigns for both for-profit and nonprofit organizations including Coca-Cola and Florida International University. Mursuli has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida.

ENTERTAINMENT

Christy McCouch has been promoted to operations manager at Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables. She previously was company manager and assistant to the artistic director. McCouch has a bachelor’s degree in entertainment management from Missouri State University.

HEALTHCARE

Alex Fuentes has joined Baptist Health South Florida as director of international business development. He had been with the Miami Herald Media Company for 12.5 years, most recently as vice president of marketing and interactive. Fuentes has a bachelor’s in communications from Florida International University and an MBA from Florida State University.

Dr. Jeffrey J. Goldberger has been named chief of the cardiovascular division at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He will also oversee all cardiac clinical care at UHealth — the University of Miami Health System. Goldberger was previously at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he was professor of medicine and director of the program in cardiac arrhythmias in the Center for Cardiovascular Innovation. His educational background includes a medical degree and residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a fellowship in cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco.

Name: Andres Mendoza

New position: Partner at Akerman LLP. He will focus his practice on joint ventures and the formation of private equity funds for investors throughout the United States.

Previous position: He was a partner in the corporate group at Bilzin Sumberg.

Education: Mendoza has a bachelor’s from the University of Virginia, and an MBA and J.D. from the University of Miami.

Best advice he ever received: My parents always told me that if I worked hard and tried my best, I could be anything that I wanted to be. This advice instilled in me the confidence and belief to be successful.
