A Kendall mall is adding new restaurants and workout places. Check the list

New yoga and Pilates fitness studios, along with several food spots to fuel those workouts, are coming to Kendall’s evolving Palms at Town & Country shopping center.

“As the Palms at Town & Country continues to grow, we’re focused on introducing brands that complement the existing mix,” said Katie Wycoff, director of real estate at Kimco Realty Corp., citing the leasing momenturm.

The newbies at the neighborhood strip center come at a bustling time. Been through its parking lot maze lately? Get back to us once you make it back out.

Last October, a 3,684-square-foot Starbucks opened where a Burger King once stood just off the Kendall Drive-side of the mall at 8268 Mills Dr. At the same time, a new Barnes & Noble bookstore opened in the mall, a replacement for a larger, older store that was closed a mile away at Kendall Village.

In January, Publix closed its 40-year-old Palms store and by mid-April it was demolished to make way for a bigger, contemporary supermarket. Construction work on the foundation for that new store has begun.

A month later Miniso, a China-based retailer selling Japanese-themed low‑priced household goods, toys, cosmetics, stationery and Marvel, Disney and Harry Potter-themed collectibles, opened its fourth Miami-Dade store in a 7,000 square-foot space next to Ann Taylor Factory.

In March, Palms announced a new Tesla showroom and service center is opening on its property across the street on Southwest 117th Avenue later this year on the site of a long-gone Toys R Us.

And property owner Kimco’s long-discussed plans continue toward redeveloping the portion of the complex that houses a Kohl’s by building a pair of 12-story apartment buildings on the site at 11800 Mills Drive and possibly relocating the Kohl’s to a smaller space north on the sprawling grounds. Kimco didn’t respond to a Miami Herald query on the status of that redevelopment.
