Two Barnes & Nobles stores are opening in South Florida. See dates and details
Barnes & Noble is opening two South Florida stores. The first, across from The Falls shopping complex, comes right after Labor Day.
The bookseller is opening a 15,000-square-foot store in Colonial Palms Plaza, in a space once home to an Old Navy.
The store at 13605 S. Dixie Hwy. sits across from Miller’s Ale House and opens 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, with a snip of the ribbon by Miami-based author and Univision TV producer Luz María Doria. The Barry University communications grad will then sign copies of her latest book, “¿Cuánto te pesa lo que te pasa?” (”How Much Does What Happens Weigh on You?”)
A month later, in October, a new Barnes & Noble opens in the former Forever 21 space at 8525 Mills Dr. at the Palms at Town & Country outdoor mall in Kendall.
That new 20,000-square-foot store replaces the nearby Kendall Village store a mile west that sprawled more than 55,000 square feet of space for nearly 30 years. The Kendall Village store closes on Sept. 24 to make way for a Rooms To Go furniture store.
“We’re emo but happy it’s finding a new home,” ThirdSpacesMiami events guide posted on Instagram about the Kendall store swap.

So, two new Barnes & Noble’s bookstores in the Miami area a little over six miles from one another? In a world gone digital?
“Readers want to explore and discover unexpected delights within brick-and-mortar bookshops,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “That we are able to open so many new Barnes & Noble bookstores across the country — including this, our southernmost so far — is a testament to that. Our Miami booksellers are eager to welcome the community into their brand-new Colonial Palms Barnes & Noble.”
Both new stores will feature books, of course, alongside B&N Cafés and toys and games departments. Vinyl record fans also find albums at Barnes & Noble.
The newcomers are among the 60-plus new B&N openings planned nationwide through 2025, according to the company. September’s other openings include stores in California, Maryland and Washington.
The Colonial Palms store manager, Sally Amador, said she’s looking forward to opening the doors in September. “Not only do we get a beautiful new store, but we are bringing new beginnings to the community.”
