Inspectors find ‘black, mold-like’ substances and old food at a Hialeah Sedano’s
Mold and food that was too old or wasn’t safely cold made for a failed inspection at a Hialeah Sedano’s Supermarket.
Happy feelings of “Thank God it’s Friday” or “Es viernes y el cuerpo lo sabe!” got muted at the 2301 W. 52nd St. Seds after Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services inspectors Caridad Delgado and Wenndy Ayerdis stopped by on Friday.
After the “Re-Inspection Required” result of this inspection, there will be another visit on or before Feb. 7. Here’s some of the worst that Inspectors Delgado and Ayerdis found on this visit:
In the food processing area, a Stop Use Order got dropped on “black, mold-like grime deeply encrusted into groove/cut marks on the cutting board next to the oven.”
An ice machine had “Black mold-like substances on the interior ledge and ice dispenser.”
The sugar containers in a food service area cabinet drawer weren’t covered.

Also in the food service area, cream cheese, a gallon of milk, container of sliced ham and cheese in a reach-in cooler measured 50 to 53 degrees. The reach-in cooler’s only job is to keep all that at or under 41 degrees for proper food safety. They got hit with Stop Sales.
In the produce department, the bean sprouts in the walk-in cooler measured 43 degrees and the cut watermelon, which had been in the cooler since Thursday, measured 47 to 50 degrees in another cooler. Two Stop Sales.
The deli area had packages of deli Kretschmar Olive Loaf and USA Ham Latin Ham in the reach-in cooler that had been there since Jan. 15 (ninth day) and Jan. 16 (eighth day), past the seven-day barrier. Stop Sales on each. Basura.

“Tongs used for serving pastelitos and croquetas from the hot box were hanging on the hot unit door and not in a clean protected location.”
Frozen pastelitos got smashed with a Stop Sale because they were “stored in direct contact with plastic shopping bags inside the chest freezer.” Shopping bags aren’t food grade bags fit for direct contact with food.
“Dust was accumulated on the fan guards of the condensing unit in the meat cold room where the band saw is located.”
The backroom walk-in freezer door and gaskets were damaged.
