All food items get Stop Sale Orders at a rodent poop-decorated Broward bakery

More rodents brought more restrictions — specifically, a freeze on sales for all food items present — at a Dania Beach bakery that state inspectors already banned from making new food and receiving new food items.

Thursday’s stop at Lubin’s Classic Bakery, 1466 W. Dixie Hwy., by Florida Department of Agriculture inspectors Tasheka Edmond and Caridad Delgado ended with a Stop Sale Order slammed on all food items.

Back on Aug. 14, Edmond and Delgado dropped Stop Sales on “all open/exposed foods in the establishment” and Stop Use Orders on “all food processing areas/departments” and “all receiving of food items.” Inspector Kaitlyn Ford kept those orders in place after visiting Lubin’s on Aug. 22.

Failing an Ag Department inspection doesn’t necessarily shut down the establishment, which happens when a restaurant fails a Department of Business & Professional Regulation inspection.

But Ag Department inspectors make more liberal use of Stop Sale Orders on food and Stop Use Orders on equipment and areas. Enough of those can make being open impossible or just unprofitable.

Thursday, in the bakery area, the inspectors saw little drops of rodent regularity inside the mixing bowl of the floor mixer; on the sheet pans stored on the pan rack; and on the floor behind the storage bin and equipment.

The kitchen area, the inspection said, had “rodent droppings on the floor and inside the mop sink.”

The Stop Sale and Stop Use Orders already in effect remained in effect, along with the new Stop Sale: “You are hereby ordered to withhold the good identified herein from movement, sale or use.”

There still wasn’t any way for someone using the backroom restroom to dry their hands.

The “ceiling tiles throughout the establishment have brown stains and water damage.”
