Too much rodent dung caused too many parts of a Broward bakery to be shut down

The proliferation of rodent droppings at a Dania Beach bakery prompted state inspectors to halt the making of food and the delivery of new items.

This happened at Lubin’s Classic Bakery, 1466 W. Dixie Hwy./Phippen Rd., on Aug. 14. On Friday, Florida Department of Agriculture inspector Kaitlyn Ford stopped by Lubin’s and put in her report, “The original Stop Use Orders and Stop-Sale Order issued on 8/14/2025 remain in effect.”

Ag Department inspectors of grocers, all packaged food sellers, bakeries, food processors and food storage facilities don’t have the power to shut down a business overall, like state restaurant inspectors do.

But they do have the power to put Stop Use Orders on areas and equipment in an establishment. Inspectors Tasheka Edmond and Caridad Delgado used those powers during an Aug. 14 visit, which was a re-inspection from a July 30 inspection.

On Aug. 14, they found rodent poop pellets on the floor and inside the mop sink “throughout the kitchen;” “on the floor underneath the bakery table, behind equipment and on an unused bread slicer; and on the backroom floor and in a metal bowl.

The inspectors slammed Stop Sales on “all open/exposed foods in the establishment” and put Stop Use Orders on “All food processing areas/departments” and “all receiving of food items.”

In addition, the “person in charge did not correctly respond to questions that relate to preventing food borne illness and symptoms.”

In the backroom area, soap and paper towels — or any way to dry hands properly — were missing in the restroom.

A kitchen employee washed utensils without sanitizing them.

“Ceiling tiles throughout the establishment have brown stains and water damage.”
