There’s a new Girl Scout cookie. Here’s what it tastes like and where you can buy a box
The last time the Girl Scouts introduced a new cookie was January 2020. The Lemon-Up cookie carried a theme of empowerment.
The packaging boasted encouraging messages such as “I am gutsy,” “I am strong” and “I am a risk-taker.”
But last year, amid the COVID-19, it was all about getting cookies to customers in any way possible: digital sales, deliveries, traditional storefront tables.
This year, the Girl Scouts are taking note of their 2-year-old messages of being “gutsy,” “strong” and “risk-taker” by introducing a new cookie — Adventurefuls.
The new Girl Scout Cookie’s theme: adventure. Because, haven’t we all been on an adventure lately?
You have some questions about the 2022 Girl Scout Cookies program. We have some answers.
What do Adventurefuls taste like?
We have yet to taste the newly introduced cookie to render a review, but according to the Girl Scouts, Adventurefuls “are an indulgent brownie-inspired cookie with caramel-flavored crème and a hint of sea salt.”
Of course, aren’t all Girl Scouts cookies, like the returning Samoas, Tagalongs, Lemon-Ups and Thin Mints, indulgent? The Girl Scouts add that the Adveturefuls are “an incredible taste of adventure in every bite.”
Ah, OK.
Miami-Dade and Monroe sale dates
Cookie sales through Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida begin Jan. 8 and run through Feb. 22 in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.
Broward sale dates
Cookie sales through Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida run Feb. 3 through Feb. 27 in Broward County.
Where can you buy Girl Scout cookies?
Pre-sale orders started digitally in December via the Girl Scouts’ Digital Cookie online platform at www.girlscouts.org/en/cookies/about-girl-scout-cookies.html. That site will also let you connect with your local Girl Scouts council. Through this platform the councils can offer customers contactless delivery drop-offs and the option to donate cookies to local Hometown Heroes.
Given the ongoing COVID pandemic, and the surge of the omicron variant, many people may desire the contactless delivery option. In-person booths in front of grocery stores and other outlets, however, will take into account the desire for social distancing and accept digital transactions, as always. And the scouts and their parents and guardians on site will still take cash, too.
Cookie booths will be at grocery stores including Publix, Milam’s and Winn-Dixie in Miami-Dade and the Keys, in addition to other locations, according to a spokeswoman for Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida.
Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida also says that its troops are already lining up their booth locations throughout Broward so you’ll see cookies at many of the “usual locations” like Publix, Duffy’s and Walmart.
If in doubt, visit the website’s Cookie Finder at https://www.girlscoutsfl.org/cookies or : https://digitalcookie.girlscouts.org/scout/any25237.
2022 Girl Scout Cookies prices
We’ve seen the price of groceries, goods, services and practically everything else rise in the fall and winter of 2021 due to supply chain snags, inflation and COVID-related challenges.
Not Girl Scout cookies, though.
“Prices remain the same. We work closely with our baker on pricing. Our last price increase was in 2020. We do not anticipate an increase in the near future,” said Chelsea Wilkerson, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida. Melinda Glasco, spokeswoman for Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, said the same thing: no price hike.
This means $5 a box for most varieties, including Tagalongs, Samoas, Trefoils, Lemon-Ups and the new Adventurefuls.
Two varieties are $6: Girl Scout S’Mores and Toffee-Tastic’s gluten free flavor.
Supply chain issue?
According to Wilkerson: “Last year during the 2021 cookie season, we did not experience any big supply chain challenges. We had a few shipping delays, however, nothing significant. We did experience a decrease in sales related to COVID concerns — our sales were down 45%.
“This year for the 2022 cookie season, we have seen an uptick in initial sales and enthusiasm from our Girl Scouts and community,” she said.
The first batch of cookies is ready to sell.
“Like everything, Girl Scouts isn’t immune from supply chain challenges. We were recently made aware that the baker may have fulfillment issues later in the season. However, the timing will likely not affect our sales, given that our Girl Scout council starts early.”
