In a continued effort to fight food insecurity across Florida, the nonprofit Farm Share is distributing free groceries to families in need in Miami-Dade County on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The food giveaways are meant to offer a lifeline for local residents struggling to afford basic groceries. Participants will receive fresh fruits and vegetables as well as shelf-stable items such as canned goods.

The food distribution is organized as a drive-thru only event in order to minimize physical contact and maintain safety for all involved. Attendees must arrive in a vehicle with a working trunk or cargo bed to receive the food.

Here’s the information on the two food distribution events:

Tuesday, July 1

Miami:

WHERE: MDC Medical Campus Free Food Distribution

950 NW 20th St.

Time: 10 a.m. while supplies last

Wednesday, July 2

Opa-locka:

WHERE: 777 Sharazad Blvd.

Date: Wednesday, July 2

Time: 9:30 a.m. while supplies last

Farm Share, Florida’s largest food bank, partners with local farmers to rescue produce that would otherwise be discarded due to cosmetic imperfections. That food is then redirected to families, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, churches, senior centers and food pantries across the state — all at no cost to recipients.

Those who cannot attend this week’s events can find a food pantry nearby by visiting www.farmshare.org/food-pantries.
