Get out your ugly Christmas sweater: Zoo Miami’s holiday lights display is coming back

The holiday lights are coming back to Zoo Miami.
The holiday lights are coming back to Zoo Miami.

We know you haven’t even eaten all the leftover Halloween candy yet, but let’s face it: The holiday season is here, whether you’re ready or not. And Zoo Miami is just about ready to light up.

The annual Zoo Lights exhibit returns with a million bright lights, glowing zoo animals (not real ones) and a 26-foot holiday tree illuminated by LED lights.

Santa Claus will put in an appearance, obviously, but there will also be animal encounters, boat rides, music, arts and crafts and hot chocolate and cookies, plus a talking tree.

The tree lighting ceremony happens opening night, and throughout the holiday season families can enjoy special nights, including PJ Night, Superhero Night and Galaxy Night, where you can dress up like a character from “Star Wars,” “Star Trek” or “Guardians of the Galaxy.” And be sure you drag your ugliest holiday sweater out of the closet, because there are a few nights you can show that off, too.

The zoo closes early on Zoo Lights nights, and capacity is limited, so buy your tickets early. And say hi to Santa for us.
