Things To Do

Drive-in movies kept Miami busy during COVID-19. This weekend, we get drive-in concerts

Throughout this long, hot, closed-down, shut-in summer, pop-up drive-in movie theaters have helped keep Miami sane.

Now, one of the drive-ins is introducing drive-in concerts.

3FEO’s Drive-in at the Fair plans to host three in-person outdoor concerts of freestyle and Latin music at the Miami Youth Fairgrounds, which you can watch from the safety of your car and stay extremely socially distanced.

But if the spirit moves you, you can shake it like a Polaroid picture. Yes. Miami-Dade County is allowing the drive-in to permit dancing inside your assigned parking space. It’ll be just like the “Step Up” movies only without Channing Tatum’s abs.

George Cabrera, President and CEO of 3FEO Entertainment, says Miami needs the entertainment.

“Live music brings people together, gets them moving, and boosts their mood — all of which are in short order these days,” Cabrera said in a press release. “I started Drive-In to bring people together for a good time and to give artists a much needed venue to perform again in front of their fans.”

Here’s the schedule for the concerts:

8 p.m. Sept. 18: Lena y Malena Burke, mother/daughter Cuban performers, take the stage with a seven-piece band.

7 p.m. Sept. 19: “Freestyle Explosion” with George Lamond, Johnny O., Coro and Cynthia. Expect freestyle favorites from the Hot Wheels days and we know you don’t need us to explain what that is.

7:30 p.m. Sept. 26: Grammy and Emmy winner and Cuban sensation Albita performs.

And don’t worry. The movies aren’t gone for good: “Frozen” is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 27.
