Things To Do

There’s a new drive-in movie theater in Fort Lauderdale. Now get off your couch

Time to go to a film festival, social distancing style.

OK, let’s not go overboard. You can’t actually attend a film festival in the coronavirus era, but you can indeed go somewhere beside your couch to watch a movie.

The so-called FLIFF Drive-In Cinema, at Pier Sixty-Six, 2150 SE 17th St., Fort Lauderdale, is a limited-run weekend event, launched by the culture starved folks behind the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival.

Organizer Gregory Von Hausch says the plan is to keep the drive-in operating through July 31; longer, if they find a sponsor.

Friday nights they offer films for grown-ups, Saturday nights for kids. Showtime for both: 8:30 p.m.

This weekend, it’s “Grease,” on Friday and “Happy Feet” the following night.

Doors open at 7 p.m. All cars must be in position by 8:15 p.m. Best get there early as parking is first come, first serve.

As with Carflix Cinema, another drive-in movie “theater” at Dezerland Park in North Miami Beach, food trucks are on site. You may bring chairs and sit outside your car in a mask.

Instructions will be given for which FM radio signal the audio is broadcast on. Portable restrooms and a hand sanitizing station are provided, but, again, remember masks must be worn when out of your vehicle.

Hashtag your friends who will definitely have quarantine FOMO: #FLIFFDriveInCinema.
