Things To Do

These attractions are the best road trip spots to hit in Miami and Key West, guide says

Just how good is your road trip game? Roadtrippers wants you to step it up.

The road trip planning platform - didn’t know such a thing existed, did you? - has announced its Extraordinary Places list. This list encompasses all the absolute must-sees in the United States, according to the team of travel experts at Roadtrippers. Three Miami-Dade spots and four places in Key West made the cut. Sorry, Fort Lauderdale.

Roadtrippers defines Extraordinary Places as those that “stay with you long after visiting. They are the places that fill you with wonder. They are epic natural wonders, weird roadside attractions, and deeply meaningful monuments.”

This does not explain how South Beach made the list - have the Roadtrippers ever even been to Ocean Drive? We are unconvinced. They love South Beach’s “Art Deco architecture, vintage Americana, hot rods, Cuban influence, and overt sexiness” and cite the “tons of great little cafes where you can grab a seat and a snack and take in all of the people-watching.” TGI Friday’s on Ocean Drive does have some outdoor tables. We guess that is nice, if you’re from Indiana and it’s snowing back home.

Two other Miami-Dade attractions also made the list: Everglades National Park because it is a natural outdoor wonderland full of mosquitoes, gators and pythons, and Coral Castle, which is full of mystical energy. This is good because you are going to need all the mystical energy you can get to avoid heat stroke on a hot day.

The coral carvings at Coral Castle are probably the coolest things in the greater Miami area.

Roadtrippers praises four can’t-miss road trip spots in Key West: The Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum, the Southernmost Point Buoy, Dry Tortugas National Park and Duval Street. All of Duval Street. We presume they mean the parts with the fewest tourists throwing up, but we are not entirely sure.

The list also highlighted other attractions in Florida, including Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales; Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine; Fort DeSoto Park in Tierra Verde; Siesta Beach in Siesta Key; Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista.
