Miami schools are still closed. Here are some ways to keep the kids busy.

As we pick up the trees and debris and overturned fences that Hurricane Irma left in her wake, Miami kids have been left in the lurch. So far, the goal is for schools in Miami-Dade to be open on Monday. In the interim, you either have some very bored or very overheated kids underfoot. Here are some things to do around town that are actually open. 

Free movies at Actor's Playhouse

Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre will screen free PG-rated family films from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday at its theater at 280 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. Call 305-444-9293.

Get in some culture

Pérez Art Museum Miami, 1103 Biscayne Blvd., invites South Florida residents to spend a day at the museum with free admission on Thursday and Friday. PAMM will host a variety of activities, including family-friendly art-making and a Thursday night happy hour.

KINGS Dining & Entertainment Doral

The fancy pants bowling spot in Doral is hosting a fundraising drive throughout September to help with Irma relief. Among Kings’ plans: Kings will donate 50 percent of its gaming sales to hurricane relief efforts. Bowl for Hurricane Relief bracelets ($5) and a GoFundMe page that will enter anyone who donates $10 or more into a raffle to win a King Pin Room party. Money will go to American Red Cross disaster relief. Details on fundraising here.

Pod 22 is open

If you haven’t been to Pod 22 yet, you are missing out. This indoor playground doubles as a nail salon, so there’s something in it for everyone. They are back open, the only situation is that the wifi isn’t working so it’s cash only until they do.

Frost Science passed its first trial by hurricane: The $300 million structure brushed off the rising tide like it was jumping waves. The animals and exhibitions are all safe and ready to go. Starting Friday, they will reopen with a special First Fridays: Redux with a retro laser light show taking place inside the cool dome of the Frost Planetarium. Reserve now. This is a hot ticket. Also, their new Food@Science in-house café serving up fresh salads, sandwiches and hearty dishes.

The Children’s Museum is open, with all the regular exhibits like the Carnival Upper Deck and the Music Maker’s Studio available to keep the kids active and engaged. This Friday, they host their Target Free Third Friday special hours 4-6 p.m. Also, the museum’s mascot MiChiMu will still be having a birthday party on Saturday, Sept. 16.
