A popular Ecuadorian restaurant from Spain has opened its first U.S. location in Coral Gables.

Founded in Barcelona in 2003, with locations in Madrid and Zaragoza, El Ñaño is the first restaurant outside Spain for Ecuadorian chef, founder and restaurateur Eloy Mera. It’s located in the former space of Bellmont Spanish Restaurant, which closed in 2025.

He calls the opening on Miracle Mile “a dream come true.”

“After so many years, it means a lot to bring what we’ve built in Europe to a city that feels so important to the Latin community,” he said.

Mena’s wife and co-owner Mildre Gómez agrees that the Miami restaurant, which seats up to 100 diners, is bigger than just another opening.

“Bringing El Ñaño to the U.S. has always been part of the vision,” Gómez said. “We’ve spent years building this brand, and now we’re excited to share it with a new audience.”

The menu strives to highlight traditional Ecuadorian recipes with a contemporary Latin American touch. Diners will find classics like encebollado (fish soup with yuca, albacore tuna and citrus onions) and cazuela de platano (green plantains, peanut and tuna).

You’ll find ceviches, too, as well as steaks like ribeye and picanha and grilled churrasco, as well as fried fish, roast chicken and pork chops.
