Forget all the closings. Ignore the invasion of out-of-town restaurants. Tune out the echoing complaints about high prices.

Miami is the best foodie city in the country.

That’s the conclusion of a survey by WalletHub, a personal finance website and app, which analyzed more than 180 cities around the United States using 28 indicators of appeal, including the cost of groceries, affordability and accessibility of high-quality restaurants and food festivals per capita.

In the best cities for foodies, “there are tons of unique culinary experiences to try, from food trucks to specialty-food stores to, in some cities, Michelin-starred restaurants,” writes WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo. “The top cities cater not just to people who enjoy dining out, but also to foodies who enjoy putting their own skills to the test by exploring new flavors in their own kitchens. In addition, these cities make delicious dining affordable for residents and visitors alike.”

What makes Miami the best in this survey? According to the study, it’s largely to do with the diversity, accessibility and quality of restaurant types available, categories in which Miami ranks no. 2 overall. WalletHub also praises the number of Michelin-starred restaurants. There are 13 at the moment (two others, EntreNos in Miami Shores and Itamae Ao in the Design District, have closed since the 2025 stars were awarded).

Miami is also home to L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, the first of two restaurants in Florida to earn two Michelin stars (the other is Sorekara Japanese restaurant in Orlando).

Miami also ranks high for food lovers who like to cook at home, with the third-most farmer’s markets, the ninth-most gourmet specialty food stores and the third-most butcher shops. The city even boasts the second-most kitchen supply stores per capita.

Where Miami falls short is in the category of affordability, ranking 156th overall, which is not surprising, since it was just declared the most expensive U.S. spot for dining out by an international food magazine.

There were two other Florida spots in the top 10 foodie city list: Orlando (5) and Tampa (7). The rest of the top 10 includes Portland, Oregon (2); San Francisco (3); Seattle (5); Austin (6); Las Vegas (8); Sacramento (9); and San Diego (10). Fort Lauderdale ranked no. 21, while St. Petersburg was no. 72 and Jacksonville was no. 77.
