After less than a year, this Wynwood restaurant closed. Here’s who’s moving in
A luxury restaurant and nightlife spot that opened less than a year ago has permanently closed in Miami — and an upscale steakhouse from New York is taking its place.
Casa Madera, an upscale Tulum-inspired restaurant and lounge, closed quietly on the seventh floor of the Moxy Hotel in Wynwood after opening in December of 2024. A concept from the Noble 33 hospitality group, which also operates the glamorous Sparrow Italia on the first floor, Casa Madera served upscale coastal Mexican food like tacos, crudo, sea bass, tiger shrimp and grilled crab legs, and a salt-encrusted branzino with a show-stopping presentation.
Earlier this year, Noble 33 co-founder Mikey Tanha told the Miami Herald that Wynwood was the logical neighborhood to continue the brand’s expansion. There are two other Casa Maderas, one in Toronto and the other in West Hollywood, while Sparrow Italia has a location in London and one soon to open in New York.
“Locals love coming to Wynwood,” Tanha said of the concepts. “It’s a place geared toward creativity, a place people can escape to, and it can support businesses like Sparrow and Casa Madera, especially with tons of buildings going up.”
While that did not prove true for Casa Madera, although Sparrow Italia remains open, a new out-of-state concept has announced its plans to move into the space: Brooklyn Chop House, known for its blending of classic steakhouse sensibilities with Asian cuisine.
Owned by hip-hop impresario Robert “Don Pooh” Cummins, David Thomas and hospitality entrepreneur Stratis Morfogen, the restaurant has two locations in New York, one downtown and one in Times Square.
The wide-ranging menu includes steaks and chops, small plates and Asian specialties like dumplings, noodles and satays. You’ll also find lobster on the menu as well. Specialties of the house include Peking duck as well as Alaskan King crab legs, soft shell crabs, shrimp and sea bass.
Brooklyn Chop House is expected to open Nov. 12.
