This famous (and huge) French restaurant from New York is opening in Miami Beach
A famous French restaurant from New York City is making its Florida debut in Miami Beach.
The huge, determinedly chic La Grande Boucherie, the giant Parisian bistro that’s more than twice the size of most Parisian bistros, is opening in Miami Beach’s South of Fifth neighborhood.
The concept from The Group Hospitality, which first opened in Manhattan in 2020, now has four New York restaurants, one in Chicago and another in Washington.
The South Beach La Grande Boucherie is the group’s first restaurant in the South, and Group Hospitality founder Emil Stefkov said the brand is offering Miami the “unique fusion of an indulgent steakhouse with the timeless charm of a refined Parisian brasserie.”
“This new venture marks a significant milestone for The Group Hospitality as we step into the Magic City, known for its vibrant culture and world-class gastronomy,” he said in a statement.
The restaurant boasts a whopping 400 seats across two stories and a garden courtyard, which is filled with greenery. Just inside the Art Deco-style building, the former space of Au Pied du Cochon and later La Gloutonnerie, is a classic-style bar with brass accents and marble surfaces, one of the themes of La Grande Boucherie’s first floor design.
The more casual first floor dining room mimics the look of a brasserie with subway tile walls and mosaic floors, an homage to what Stefkov calls “the Golden Age of Paris.” The design upstairs is much different, more elegant, the colors darker and richer, with plush red chairs and dark wallpaper in place of the clean white subway tiles.
Wherever you decide to eat, the menu remains the same. Executive chef Leonardo Pablo, who oversaw culinary operations at W South Beach and Esme Hotel, leads the kitchen, which prides itself on modern and classic French dishes.
As it is at most La Grande Boucherie locations, the menu is meat-heavy, with the usual suspects (filet mignon au poivre, ribeye, steak frites, rack of lamb and Chateaubriand). You’ll also find other French classics such as coq au vin, confit duck leg, boeuf Bourguignon, mussels, escargot and (of course) the expected French onion soup.
The Miami Beach restaurant will also feature a special seafood menu, a first for La Grande Boucherie. The menu includes grilled branzino, red snapper, sea bream, grilled prawns, stone crab, Maine lobster, Mediterranean octopus and smoked King crab. There’s also a raw bar with oysters, stone crab and more.
