Another vibrant South American restaurant is opening its first U.S. location in Miami.

The luxurious La Ferneteria Restaurant & Lounge, which originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina and also has a location in Asuncion, Paraguay, is making its North American debut on 24th Street in Wynwood, just west of Panther Coffee and Coyo Taco.

The restaurant is known for its Italian fare, a cuisine that’s well represented in the neighborhood. But owner Diego Diaz Varela said that Wynwood is the “perfect location” for the restaurant because it “embodies the spirit of innovation and artistry that we cherish.”

And of course, those rooftop views of Miami don’t hurt.

“The stunning city views from the rooftop are the most distinctive feature,” he said. “Our goal is to create a space that celebrates art, flavor, and community. Miami’s energy aligns perfectly with our vision, and we are thrilled to introduce a dynamic and memorable dining experience as unique as the city itself.”

The restaurant, located on the ninth floor, is 7,000 square feet and seats 254, mostly outdoors. You arrive via a private elevator and sit at one of the many tables on the patio.

The design features stone touches with gold accents and marble, reflecting a sort of Roman Empire atmosphere, according to Varela. The Miami location features an original mural depicting two lovers in ancient Rome, feasting amid trees and flowers.

The menu, curated by executive chef Javier Gonzalez, features meats, pastas and seafood, as well as popular Italian appetizers like arancini, a 12-ounce meatball, roasted octopus with potatoes and and burrata Caprese. Diners who don’t mind a little spending can opt for a seafood tower or caviar service.

Entrees range from $32 to $58 and include salmon griglia and steak au poivre, with pastas running from $29 (for garganelli ragu with brisket) to $49 (for tagliolini frutti du mare with lobster, shrimp and mussels).

Fettuccine al Tartufo Nero with fontina and Parmesan sauce and shaved black truffle is also a specialty.

La Ferneteria also offers three large tableside plates for sharing: bistecca alla Fiorentina, a 40-ounce Tomahawk served with asparagus and thick-cut fries ($210); a 10-layer lasagna with slow-cooked brisket ($110 or $65 for a half order; and pesce alla sale, the catch of the day whole fish cooked in sea salt, prosecco and chives sauce ($150).

There’s also a gorgeous marble bar that seats 20, with a large wine list and specialty cocktails. There’s also a speakeasy lounge with room for 50 guests and a private dining area that seats 15.

Entertainment is also a huge part of La Ferneteria’s DNA, and that’s no different in Miami (because why would it be?). The restaurant is open until the wee hours, with music from local and internationally known DJs, so expect something of a nightclub vibe while you gaze out at all Wynwood has to offer.
