La Ventanita podcast: Chef Teach talks Wynwood gentrification, touring with Pitbull

Derrick Turton, known as Chef Teach, is more famous for his South Florida House of Mac restaurants and food truck, but not many know he was Pitbull’s first manager.

On the Feb. 17 episode of the Miami Herald food podcast, La Ventanita, food editor Carlos Frías and co-host Amy Reyes spoke with Turton about how cooking for stars like Fat Joe, A$AP Rocky, Yo Gotti put him on a track to restaurant success. His House of Mac is now a favorite of Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle Union, Rihanna and a steady stream of other celebrities visiting South Florida.

We ask him about his 13 years managing a young Pitbull — but why the death of his father forced him to re-evalute his life, give up a big salaried career and turn toward creating his own legacy with the successful House of Mac restaurants.

Tune in Thursdays at 11 a.m. to watch La Ventanita live, comment and ask questions during the interview. Find every episode of La Ventanita at the show page and on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Megaphone, Stitcher and MiamiHerald.com.
