Did the coronavirus shutdown ruin Easter dinner plans? Restaurants are still delivering

What are your Easter plans this year during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Are you searching for the Easter Bunny’s hidden eggs with your child? Attending a livestream mass to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter? Brainstorming recipes with what’s in your fridge?

If you’re tired of cooking, you can always order out.

Hundreds of restaurants are still open on a pick-up-and-delivery only basis during Florida’s stay-at-home order to limit the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Most food delivery apps have waived delivery fees for customers and while you can find a large selection of options using apps like UberEats, Postmates or Grubhub, some local restaurant owners are asking you to call the restaurant or visit its website instead.

Local restaurant owners have told the Miami Herald that if you order directly from the restaurant, customers can get rid of the middle man (the delivery app), which helps cut down cost for the business and can translate into paychecks for employees during the difficult pandemic. At the same time, those apps are helping drivers earn income, too.

And just because your favorite restaurant isn’t listed on an app doesn’t mean it’s closed. You should call or check its website or social media for operating updates. Some restaurants are also accepting pre-orders to accommodate an expected influx of requests for Easter, with many offering “contactless delivery” options to promote social distancing.

Here are some of the many restaurants you can still order breakfast, lunch or dinner from to enjoy your family Zoom gathering in South Florida. Remember, there are hundreds of restaurants still open for takeout and delivery in South Florida. You should always call ahead for pre-order availability, pick-up and/or delivery hours of operation.
