Chicken and waffles? Pollo Tropical is now serving breakfast at these two Miami locations

This is not a drill: Chicken and waffles is part of a new breakfast menu at Pollo Tropical.

Pollo Tropical is now testing a breakfast menu, Miami. It is time to get your chicken and waffles on.

Miami’s favorite fast-casual chicken spot is serving breakfast at the drive-thru windows at two of its stores from 7 through 10:30 a.m. You can opt for something simple: mini ham croquetas or crispy ham croquetas; mini beef empanadas; crispy beef picadillo empanadas or Cuban toast. Just don’t forget to order a cortadito or a colada to go.

But you can upgrade your breakfast game, too. There’s a breakfast bowl with scrambled eggs, potatoes, cheese, sauteed peppers and onions with a choice of bacon, chorizo or chicken sausage. If you want that in a form more suited to stuffing into your face while you drive, order a breakfast wrap. You can’t be too careful in Miami traffic.

Most amazing of all: chicken and waffles. Yes! Pollo Tropical’s crispy chicken breast is served with two waffles, as a platter or a sandwich. And this is not an Eggo situation: These waffles aren’t frozen. Pollo Tropical has its own waffle irons and pours the batter right into them like you would do yourself if only you weren’t so lazy.

Will the chicken and waffles make your list of Pollo Tropical favorites? Only you can say.

Right now, the only two restaurants serving breakfast are the locations at Northwest 57th Avenue just south of the Dolphin Expressway (581 NW 57th Ave.), and in Miami Lakes on Northwest 67th Avenue south of the Palmetto Expressway (16495 NW 67th Ave.).

Pollo Tropical is testing the popularity of the menu for now; no word on how long the breakfast menu will last. If you want it at your favorite Pollo Tropical, the restaurant has a suggestion: Try out the new menu and if you like it, let the company know via social media (@pollotropical on Instagram and Twitter).
