A holiday miracle! You can put your South Beach Wine & Food Festival tickets on layaway
If you’re already broke from holiday shopping and wincing at the looming South Beach Wine & Food Festival ticket prices, here’s a way to avoid maxing out the credit card.
The festival, which runs Feb. 19-23, is offering a payment plan for tickets. Festival goers who purchase tickets at the website will now find an option to split the payment into two parts on checkout. The festival quietly rolled out the option last year and found buyers actually spent more if they could break up the cost.
“This shows us that people are willing to spend a bit more money on tickets knowing that they can split the payment up over a few months,” a festival spokesperson wrote the Miami Herald.
Consider the payment plan more of a layaway, however. The festival won’t send diners their tickets until they have made the final payment. So if you’re thinking of giving festival events to someone for Christmas, you’re going to have to have to get crafty and print them a homemade voucher. There’s also a $10 convenience fee.
Ticket prices have long been a barrier to entry for some of the marquee events. The popular burger competition Burger Bash ranges from $250-$350 a ticket. A dinner with Mauro Colagreco, whose Menton, France restaurant Mirazur was just named No. 1 in the world, will set you back $500. Same goes for tickets to the tribute dinner, this year honoring celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, whose Overtown restaurant is still in the works.
That said, the festival offers a series of mostly walk-around tasting events for $100 and under. A movie night with Jacque Torres will set you back $25, the popular Craft-y Happy Hour with Marc Murphy costs $95, as does the popular late-night Art of Tiki Cocktail Showdown.
